My First Book

My real first book, before Hart Warming Classics was started. It\’s full of pictures I took in Japan with a travel quote on most pages.  I published it using Blurb.com.  The book looked great.  They did a nice print job, but their binding isn\’t so good.  However, the worst part is their prices have gone up to such a level that nobody will buy a copy.  Someday I\’ll redo it so it\’s cheaper and better formatted.

Treasure Island Large Print Edition

Hello. My large print edition of Treasure Island is finally out. Here is the LINK if you know someone that wants a copy of this story and needs those letters a little bigger. My regular edition of the book uses a 12 point font.  This large print edition uses the same font, but 16 point size.

At 459 pages, it\’s almost 200 pages more than the regular edition. It has all the same illustrations and annotations. The annotations are also 16 point size, but are located at the end of the book instead of at the end of each chapter.

This past week my 2nd edition of Treasure Island finally reached the 1st page in the search results and sales took off.

So celebrating with a picture of a hummingbird that reminds me of my grandmother\’s house.

Today I tried to publish a Japanese version of Treasure Island using KDP’s new beta program for publishing print on demand books. They have 33 languages you can choose as the book’s primary language. Japanese isn’t one of them. But if you want to publish a book in Manx or Eastern Frisian, try KDP!

Tough to Replicate

I’d like to put together books with pages like this for ebooks/kindle, but for pretty much all the formats available now, it isn’t possible. Sometimes with the advance of technology, we actually lose wonderful things. Even with paper books, with the software I am using this would VERY difficult to do. In one area the image is a background, and in another area the image is a background and then the text wraps around another part of the image.

I Re-released the Treasure Island book as a test. Since Amazon’s “customer service” people refuse to answer questions, I have to conduct tests on my own.

Last time, when I released the book I clicked to port it over to KDI. Part of the process was answering the question “Is the content of your book 70% or more from public domain materials?” I answered truthfully. BIG mistake!! It caused my book to be disappeared right away just before Christmas. I’m sure I lost several hundred dollars because I clicked that button. This test is to see if they will make this book disappear and if so how quickly.

I made a few changes. While working on the Japanese edition I noticed I had doubles of one annotation and that I should have written an annotation about one of the characters. A couple other small improvements were also made.
